Here is something you don't see every day! This is a FULL SIZE diorama recreation of the "final death scene" of the aliens Korob and Sylvia from the iconic Star Trek episode, Catspaw. I have wanted models of these little critters since I was a kid, but I never saw anyone making them! How hard can these be to make???
Each figure's components were sculpted in epoxy resin (a few times until we dialed in the design perfectly) and then were cast in high strength Smooth-On resin. Many parts are also reinforced with steel wire for strength, as these guys are pretty fragile and spindly. The blue fur is actually "eyelash fun fur" that has to be attached with spray adhesive and wound in different directions to make the fur "lay" properly. They also get trimmed with an electric razor, as the fur has to be cut to different lengths as you move up the body Otherwise, it would just look alike a tribble. So EACH ONE gets a haircut prior to final assembly!
Based on the real parts, we were able to determine that the original figures (which were puppets, as you can see the black wires on-screen) were about 5 1/2 inches tall. These are as-exact a recreation as can possibly be made, as the originals have never been found and probably won't ever be at this point. They are 5 1/2 inches tall, each.
Each component is hand-painted to match the originals as closely as possible. They are from a SMALL run and they are a PAIN to make. (Each diorama takes about three days to create) so we only have THREE left from this run and then we are DONE. They just take WAY too long and are too tedious to produce, long-term.
They are partially poseable, and you can move the arms and rotate the heads, the "eye stalks" are flexible wires that can be bent to any desired position, and the tails can be installed in the UP or DOWN position. But again, any fragile components (arms, tail prongs, legs) are reinforced with embedded steel wires. To locate the mounting holes through the fur, we recommend poking the areas with a toothpick and then inserting the steel pins into the locating holes.
The tails have TWO locating holes, depending upon which position you want to display them. Simply assemble each figure and press the locating pegs into the holes in the alien terrain base. NOTE: The legs are permanently attached and are not poseable. That whole process takes about two minutes or less! But you wouldn't want to return them, as they are AWESOME!
