This is a full-size replica of the Klingon blood wine handled mugs seen throughout Star Trek The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. The original factory-made replicas are unfortunately no longer available. The original prop and the replicas were thin stainless steel and flexed easily in your hand. They were also really hard to drink out of because of how thin the lip was. I fixed this by stiffening the walls without changing the size by adding an additional millimeter of thickness. Mine do not flex in your hand because the walls are not solid -- they are in fact a lattice of triangular thermoplastic that strongly resist a change in shape. These feel as rigid to me as a ceramic coffee cup, though much lighter. I always thought that looked ridiculous, since the originals in the show certainly did not have that. Mine are more understated and true to the original. If someone is a serious Star Trek fan and they see you drinking from this, they'll know what it is. If they're not a Star Trek fan, they'll just think you're drinking out of a really big metal mug. The material is food safe, and it is finished in a waterproof coating that is top-shelf dishwasher safe. I recommend handwashing with lukewarm soap and water. The material is not heat resistant, so like the original metal Klingon ones, it's not suitable for coffee. It makes a great beer mug, however, and easily hold 2 or 3 cans.
These are 5 tall, and are big even for an adult man's hands. By way of background, I designed my first prop for television almost 35 years ago. The methods were a bit different then. In recent years I keep my design skills sharp by modeling props that are not available, or not done well. This is my own design from the ground up. I don't mass produce any of these -- I finish each one by hand. Feel free to return it if you're not happy.
